Subject: looking for Edley Murphy Luttrell

Hello - Sorry to see that your site is down. I am researching my mother's
family for her 65th birthday. Her great grandfather was Edley Murphy
Luttrell who lived in Bakersville, NC in the 1880's and died in Montezuma,
NC (date unknown). He married Ruth Adelaide Crumley and served in the 31st
Tennessee Cavalry during the Civil War. Their daughter, Clara Sue, was my
great grandmother. I was wondering if your website would be up in the near
future or if you knew if Edley Murphy Luttrell was part of your family tree?
Thank you for your time,
Lisa

Ancestors to the descendants of: Mary Catherine Urban~Literel

The Urban & Landtroop Families of the Lawrence CoTN & Lauderdale CoAL areas.

Alabama ~ Missouri ~ South Carolina ~ Tennessee Virginia

This Page last updated: 02/26/06 Appendix 8 & 9: Urban/Landtroop

Mary Catherine Urban Literal was the daughter of Cassandra1 Urban who was born July 04, 1831 in Alabama , and died July 21, 1912. He married Susannah L.E. Landtroop (#114) Abt. 1855, daughter of Stith Landtroop and Mary. She was born May 27, 1837 in Alabama ??,

It is believed by some that Cassandra Urban was the son of Cassander Urban and Catherine Wise, the census information on the 1860 and 1870 Census shows Cassandra as being born in Alabama in 1834. Unfortunately, family oral history and Census information provided by some of Cassandra's children indicates that he was born in Prussia and spoke German. He may have very well spoke German but the 1860 and 1870 Census, clearly establishes his birthplace as Alabama. Marriage information on Cassander & Catherine substantiates the birthplace of Cassandra as Alabama as they were married in Lauderdale County, Alabama, June 2, 1830. Family oral history and the inconsistent spelling of Cassandra and his fathers name have combined to confuse them with each other. It is most probable that the elder Cassander, husband of Catherine Wise, was born in Prussia and migrated to Lauderdale County, Alabama sometime before 1830, and had at least one son (Cassandra) who spoke some German. On the 1860 Census, it appears that Cassandra and Susannah were in the Westpoint, TN area. In January of 1870, Cassandra purchased 50 acres of land from R.L. McLaren on "the waters of Blue Water Creek" (Range 5, Section 1). It appears his neighbors were Frances Smith and possibly John Bivens. By June of 1870, we also find neighbors Powell, Tomas Marion Smith (and a widow, Polly Smith nearby), William Ezell, the families of Aaron, J.M., and Joseph Sandy, and the families of Zachariah and William Belew. Also nearby is the family of a Mr. M. Holman (a millwright), his wife Sarah, and seven children, including a Sarah E. Holman, age 14. In 1882, as a result of some legal proceedings involving Lizzie C. Holman, Clerk and Master W.J. Nixon deeded to C. Urban three parcels of land totaling about 400 acres of land for the sum of $75. These three lots "lying on Bluewater" in the 2nd Civil District bordered the 50 acres Cassandra had purchased in 1870 and a 600 acre tract owned by A. King.
